Smoking is not good for your body! FACT! Smoking increases the risk of Cancer! FACT! Smoking can kill you! FACT! But what is the full extent of the damage that you can cause to your body by smoking? Even though we all know that smoking has harmful effects on the body, these effects vary from person to person, as it depends upon a persons bodies vulnerability to the chemicals in the cigarettes and tobacco that is smoked. It also depends upon the number of cigarettes the person smokes every day and the number of years that the smoker has smoked for. When you light a cigarette and start smoking you start the chain of harmful effects that can affect your body. Basically the first effects are the increase in the smokers blood pressure and subsequent heart rate. The inhaled substances also decreases a persons blood flow to the extremities of the body Smoking also stimulates the brain and nervous system for a short period of time. A smoker can also suffer from; Dizziness Nausea Watery eyes Weakened sense of taste Weakened sense of smell Loss of appetite Shortness of breather Chronic coughing Reduced fitness Increase in the number of colds caught Difficulty in getting over minor illnesses Yellow stain to finger tips and teeth over time Infertility in women Impotence in men Wrinkling face at an earlier than normal age Due to all of these side effects smokers have an increased risk of developing the following more harmful diseases; Respiratory infections pneumonia, chronic bronchitis etc. Emphysema where small airways in the lungs collapse. Different types of cancer lungs, throat, mouth, bladder, cervix, pancreas, stomach, kidney and bone. Ulcers mainly stomach. Smoking is seen, at a young age, as making you look cool, macho by following your mates. As you get older those are not the reasons you carry on smoking as you become addicted. As you get older still and you continue to smoke it is shortening your life but for what gain? NONE!
