With all the adrenaline rush, it's no wonder snowmobile racing became such a smash hit soon after its invention

. What most people don't realize is that with a reasonable membership fee and some good snowmobile shocks, you have the opportunity to become a racer, too. Whether you do it for the competition or the fun, here's some information for when you do.

While discussing different racing circuits, you might hear reference to the National circuit and the Regional circuit. The National circuit runs across the country and up into Canada. The Regional circuits, on the other hand, cover just the upper Midwest.

You don't have to be a legal adult to start racing. One professional began when he was only nine. An original, notarized minor waiver form is required for those younger than eighteen.

Safety and care are always held in high regard. A rulebook holds specific safety requirements, such as body armor, helmet, and shin guards. Keeping everything, including your snowmobile shocks, functioning well will also keep you safe and ready to perform.

Another must to snowmobile racing are sled and bib numbers. Snowmobile shocks do their best to counteract uneven terrain, but even while racing these numbers should be both visible and legible at all times. Most racers choose first-come/first-serve from three-digit numbers, while pros and some grandfathered semi pros have their pick of numbers single or double.

In snocross you race according to your class. Your class is made up of your age, competition level, and type of snowmachine. More specific information is available at each tour.

There are three ways to advance to the next level or class in racing. First, you may advance automatically according to your age. Second, the race director may ask the dominating racer to advance to the next level even if above the specified age group.

Third, you may fill out a Class Advancement form and request the Race Director to come watch you. This is called a Racer Resume. The form must be filled out one week before the race, and will be the basis of the director's decision regarding your advancement.
