There are many names and terms for betrayal in a relationship; infidelity, adultery, unfaithfulness, cheating and illicit affairs are but a few and according to modern studies this type of behaviour is showing an increase.

Simply put modern trends suggest that there is an increase in the chances of a partner involving themselves in an affair with someone else.

Modern research has discovered a predisposition for infidelity by both sexes, so is the rise in a partner possibly being unfaithful that surprising?

Universities in America have conducted numerous surveys, interviews and research into the subject of infidelity and have concluded that it is indeed on the rise.

A number of new studies have come up with some unexpected results when it comes to the stereotype of who is expected to be unfaithful.

It would seem that men who are over 60 are showing a willingness to enter into an adulterous affair and in addition to them, young women who may be looking for parity when it comes to narrowing the infidelity gender gap are also increasing in number.

Theories vary amongst the experts about why more people appear to be cheating.
