So You're Leaving The Uk. Now Where?

Whatever your reason for thinking about joining the hundreds of thousands of people

who emigrate from the UK each year (the Office for National Statistics states that 2008 saw around 427,000 people leave the country), there's no doubting that you'll have dozens of emotions rushing through your body at the moment, from excitement to nervousness and every other emotion in between, considering packing up and moving is not a quick or simple decision to make by anyone's standards.

One of the aspects that concerns most is choosing the correct place to immigrate to. Whilst millions of people may move from one country to another each year, this does not mean that they all get it right and actually enjoy living in the country that they have moved to.

It's impossible to see into the future and determine whether the country you move to is the one that's going to be right for you. However, you can make a very educated guess once you have researched a range of different countries.

Of the dozens upon dozens of countries that are available, these three should get you started in your search for the perfect immigration destination.

1. Canada. Seen by many as the ideal country to immigrate to, Canada has everything that anyone could ever want. A relatively warm summer climate with cold, cosy and often snowy winters; free public health care; masses of open, unpolluted space and a Gross Domestic Product that makes the country one of the richest in the world are all particularly alluring points.

As Canada is heavily promoting and welcoming immigration at the moment (immigration statistics show that the country is going through its second major immigration peak in approximately the last century), there are plenty of visas to apply for. For example, a Canadian work visa comes in a variety of different formats to suit a range of different skill sets, with around 100,000 Canadian work visas alone being granted throughout 2010, according to Statistics Canada.

2. Australia. Famous for having a seemingly open door policy in terms of immigration for many years, whilst Australia's immigration policies are a lot stricter than they once were, it still makes for an ideal destination to consider moving to permanently. Similar to Canada, Australia boasts all of the amenities that you would be looking for in an immigration destination and also benefits from a fantastic climate and wonderful golden beaches.

3. A favourite holiday destination. If you've looked into an Australian or Canadian work visa and have decided that moving to either of these two countries aren't for you, then consider immigrating to one of your favourite holiday destinations.

For anyone who has holidayed abroad, there will no doubt have been at least one occasion where you wished that the holiday wouldn't end. So why not look into moving there permanently?

There are some downsides to moving to a country that you once holidayed in, primarily that it is unlikely that the actual resort will be unsuitable for full time residency, meaning that you will have to look at little further out of the main holiday areas. Furthermore, the language barrier may also present a problem, something which is not found when moving to a primarily English speaking country such as Canada or Australia.

For some people, however, moving to a country on a permanent basis where they have spent a week or two enjoying themselves immensely in the past is perfect and it could be for you, as long as all of the implications are fully understood.
