So You're Postcard Printing: A Few Hints And Strategies
The birth of postcards in the early days was primarily for those who could not afford to purchase stamps and envelopes
. Over the years, however, postcards have become a novelty everyone enjoys sending and receiving from friends and family members. Pre-made cards used to be the only option, but now
postcard printing has become customized and personalized.
Even though there are now many designs with a new, modern flare, in essence they have not deviated from the earlier models at all. The modern postcards still forgo the use of a traditional envelope. They have an area on the back for personal messages, and some even have prepaid postage stamps on them. Now, anyone with a piece of cardboard paper or photo with a stamp can create their very own postcard.
Postcards were originally printed on stiff cardboard paper, which today is quite common and easy to procure. To make a simple postcard, first one has to make a base for the postcard by cutting down a normal piece of cardboard, usually 11"x8.5", to that of a normal postcard, typically 3.5"x5". The final step is adding a destination address with postage and a personal message, the front of the homemade postcard can be decorated as one wishes.
Another easy form of making postcards is to use a photo as a base for the postcard itself. Print out a 3.5"x5" photo at a local photo store, or at a home computer printer, and divide the back with a marker into two even spaces. The right side on the back is used to write down the recipient's address, while the left side is designated as the location for a short little note to the recipient.
It is possible for one to pick up pre-made postcard backings, which are stickers that have the same printings as real postcards, at one's local postal service center. These are simply attached to the back of any regular photo to convert that photo into a postcard. After the adhesion, the new postcard is ready to go with the addition of a stamp.
Mass production of postcards today is made easy through the advent of the Internet. Many of these online website offer services that allow their customers to design their very own
door hangers. Some sites are simplified down to be very user-friendly - all one has to do is submit a design and specify the amount of cards desired and they will be shipped to the customer for a nominal fee.
A few of these sites even offer special features people can add to their postcards. The most common of these features is the prepaid postage printed right on the card, so the customer will not have to buy stamps. Other more intricate options include shiny foiled postcards or glossy coated cards.
