Soccer Field Diagram - 3 Ways To Learn Soccer Positions

Whats really surprising to know is that coaches refuse to use a soccer field diagram to teach several different soccer formations to kids

. Or else when they do, they dont succeed in making the kids realize the importance of 4 key positions. These 4 positions are Forwards, Midfielders, Defenders, and the Goalie. Ill explain them to you one by one.

Forwards: These are players who position themselves near the opposition's goal. Their task is to turn the passes into goals that other players at several positions in field make. For this reason these players need to be the strongest since they shoot the maximum goals. Its significance is greatest even when they are just okay in other talents.

Nevertheless, let it be evident that other players shall continue to progress from one position to a new position. Strikers are those forward players who play in the middle and when they play near the touch lines, they are called wings. But in keeping with their primary role as forwards, they should be strongly built and have powerful shooting toes.

Mid-fielders: Those players who play in the middle of the field are called as mid-fielders. Their responsibility is to catch hold of the ball, and pass it to the forward players thus enabling them to score goals. Usually they are 5 to 6 such players. Define their position clearly in the soccer field diagram.

The coach should emphasize on improving the tackling and dribbling capabilities of the players. This is really instrumental in stealing the ball from the opposition and attacking the opposition. Apart from this, they should be good at passing the ball. These are crucial soccer positions on the field diagram.

Defenders: These players defend the attacks on the goal and so they are called defenders. As is obvious, this position is important. They are 3 to 5 in number and guard the goal closely to avert attacks.

In addition, their task is also to take the ball from the goalie and pass it to the players. One skill that is primary to their armory is kicking the ball to far off midfielders and therefore the coach must help them develop this ability.

Goalie: This is the person who takes all attacks onto himself and saves the goals. When every other player fails to stop the charge, it is the goalie that uses all his power and ability to save the goal.

Since the goalie has the advantage of using his or her hands, the coach should use his creativity to invent special soccer tactics, drills and exercises that help him make the most of it.

Now that you are armed with this information, you must create a soccer field diagram and then discuss these positions with your players. This will let them understand the significance of the various positions. Our youth soccer coaching community has several useful newsletters, articles, and videos.
