Alternative fuel cars to many people seem to be a technology of the distant future

The limited gas supply that happened in 1973 and 1979 taught a lot of American cities a lesson they will never forget. If supply becomes limited, industry operations will also be paralyzed that will create a huge and negative impact to the economy. But with alternative fuels being the next thing to rely upon, such incidents need not be a source of worry.

Finally, concern about the effect of petroleum-based emmissions on the environment is running high. Although the idea of global warming has been shown to be more hype than substance, it does seem to be common sense that reducing the amount of pollutants will lead to a healthier planet. Alternative power sources for cars and other transportation vehicles promise a cleaner and more emission-free mechanism. This will benefit the health of the environment as well as the world population.

We have seen that rising oil prices, limited supplies and environmental concerns all contribute to the continuing focus on alternative fuels. These are major factors in the recent and continuing growth in the demand for cars using this technology. The popularity of hybrid cars is a perfect example of how this is making its way to the consumer market.
