What is Social Media? Social media is a platform for social interaction, using highly accessible and scalable communication techniques. Social media is the use of web-based and mobile technologies to turn communication into interactive dialogue.

A Social Media Coordinator should be able to support the Web editorial team in the development of engaging online experiences, helping to deliver targeted content that drives community interaction and retention. You should be able to demonstrate experience with the latest methods of web publishing, online community building, and social media.

To be a successful Social Media Practitioner you should have a high level of social media experience as demonstrated through participation in social media activities such as blogging, community development and management, social bookmarking, commenting and interactive conversations.

A Social Media Coordinator should be well-connected with the broader social media world and have strong skills in writing, editing, photo editing and basic HTML coding. Audio and video production skills would also be beneficial to a position in the social media world.

An ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas:

-Writing, editing, and image production for an online audience.

-Social media tools and techniques and E-marketing.

Responsibilities of a Social Media Coordinator would include writing and editing content for Web sites, contributor sites, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Flickr, and other social media outlets.

-Working with large CMS systems and code HTML to prep content for Web.

-Building strong and mutually beneficial relationships with the leading sites and influencers in the category.

-Working with Web Production, Marketing and PR teams to develop and implement content initiatives.
