, over the last few years the internet has really become a part of everyday life for most people and not just the younger internet savvy generation. Whether it is a teenager who wants to find out where his favorite bands playing next, a housewife trying to find the best possible brownie or a account executive of a company trying to do research for his next presentation, the internet is the solution to most of our queries and problems. Every now and then when we are having an argument on any topic with friends you hear someone shout out lets google it. This proves exactly how dependant we are on the internet for every answer we seek.

Social media is a result of this internet explosion, it is basically a term which includes all the activities and technologies that internet users use in order to share all their experiences, thoughts, ideas and all other forms of information with other people across the internet. The best example of this being facebook, which has literally everyone we know on it. The number of people on facebook would give most countries and continents a run for their money when pitted against their population.

Social media includes all forms of advertising over the internet space, all forms of promotion of any product or service would fall under social media. Blogs, forums, podcasts, wiki pedia pages, you tube channels and google ads all fall under this umbrella term. A few of the most popular social media tools or applications would be facebook which is a social networking site which helps us stay in touch with people the world over and share pictures, videos and all forms of information with them. Youtube which is a website with user generated content in the form of videos, the users can connect with one and another and share videos, twitter, which is another social networking and microblogging platform. There are several others like flickr (photo sharing), soundcloud (music streaming), pinterest (photo sharing), google+ (social networking) etc.
