When youre in the thick of the game, its easy to forget that
softball should be a fun game. Isnt that the reason why you picked the game up in the first place? This is the case for most young players. Sure, a certain amount of seriousness is also needed when it comes to playing the game. You need the serious dedication to become a better player, or a coach. Youll have the tendency to get bored with the game the longer and more often you play softball. This is normal, of course. You can always pick yourself up at some point again. But to keep things from getting really boring to the point of burning out your players, you should keep a balance between the serious stuff and the fun stuff. Try to integrate the element of fun into your drills and exercises. Your team deserves a good laugh from time to time. Players Learn Easily When You Keep Things Fun Its true. Your players will absorb concepts much easier when theyre having fun. The reason? They forget that drills and exercises are hard work when theyre enjoying what theyre doing. If youre not yet doing this, then I suggest you should try it out immediately. By the way, this strategy works even more effectively when youre working with younger players, especially those who belong to the 10-under group. This is the stage where kids still look at most things as play, and they learn a lot easier that way. So again, design drills and exercises that they enjoy while they learn new concepts at the same time. Fun Keeps the Creative Juices Flowing When youre stuck with a tough drills and game situations, its easy for your mind to lock up and limit your options. But when you can help your team to loosen up during tense moments, then, you can let them be creative enough to devise solutions you probably havent seen before. Who says you cant be creative in the world of sports? When you can successfully combine creativity with brawn, then, the results would be very interesting. So there you have it, my softball coaching tips for coaches who want to find out why keeping the fun in the game is important. Let me summarize. If you keep things fun with your players, you will keep them from getting bored and dropping out as soon as they join the team. Another reason is that they will learn concepts a lot easier if theyre having fun. And finally, your players can create more creative solutions to tight game situations if theyre loose enough to see the games big picture. Again, your team needs a certain amount of seriousness to help them become better players. But always remember to balance that with a good amount of fun and let them enjoy the game as they should.About the Author:
