Softball Training Tips Why Perform Dynamic Warm Ups?
If you have been following everything Ive written about softball training
, then youre probably familiar with the term dynamic warm ups already. However, if youre just new to this term, I invite you to read through this article because Ill show you what dynamic warm ups are and how your softball game will benefit from it in the short and long terms.
Ready? Great, then lets begin.
Dynamic Warm Ups Vs. Static Stretches
Dynamic warm ups are better understood when you put it side-by-side with static stretches. Since you dont know what dynamic warm ups are, it would be a good guess that youre still performing static stretches.
You know the typical routine: you do a few warm up exercises like jogging around the oval, then perform static stretches. But stretches cant do the job better to prime you up for the game than dynamic warm ups.
Why? Thats because dynamic warm ups are more focused and more effective when it comes to prepping you up for the game. Unlike static stretches, dynamic warm up do these things for you:
-It really warms up your core body temperature because youre always on the move, whereas static stretches are, well, static, meaning you dont move as much, if at all.
-Dynamic warm ups fire up your nervous system, which is important to keep your body active and alert to react to any situation.
-Performing dynamic warm ups promotes better blood flow to your muscles.
-Because dynamic warm ups are typically designed for the game you play, it mentally prepares you for the game. You need focus in order to perform well on the field, and dynamic warm ups will help you with that.
Performing Softball Specific Dynamic Warm Ups
To get the most out of your dynamic warm ups, you should perform those that are specific to your game, in this case, softball. The reason for this is that softball-specific warm ups focus on the exact muscles that you will use in playing the game, including the wrists, shoulders, and legs. Aside from that, softball specific warm up also puts a lot of weight on other aspects of your game including balance, which may not be important in other dynamic warm up methods.
This is all good of course. Thats because when you perform softball-specific warm ups, you can be sure that you are truly primed to play the game, not only mentally, but also physically. Its one thing that you can tell your body to perform something, and another for your body to actually react as you intended.
That said, if you perform dynamic warm ups regularly, you can gain an unfair advantage over your opponents who are still stuck doing the same old static stretches.
Hurry, though. Because although dynamic stretches arent as widely used in softball as it is in the world of track and field, coaches and trainers will surely catch up on this soon enough. The greater your head start, the better. Therefore, I recommend that you try out these softball training tips I shared with you here, if youre really serious about dominating the game.
