Soften Up Your Conservatory By Adding Plants

If you have just had a new conservatory added to your home

, you will now have the task of adding furniture and accessories to it. If you get it right, you will have a welcoming and calming room to go into whenever you need to relax.

A key feature in many conservatories is the addition of a variety of plants. It pays to find out as much as you can before you start buying them though, because not all plants will like the unique conditions presented by the average conservatory.

During the summer when the sun is out, a conservatory can become very warm indeed. As such the plants you choose to grow there must be able to take this heat. Conversely at night the temperature can drop considerably-and even more so in winter.

Luckily the extremes experienced in this situation are not as profound as they once were-if your conservatory is fairly new you will no doubt have benefited from modern glazing that is capable of keeping the temperature more even.

A conservatory is often viewed as a connecting room between the rest of your house and the garden. As such it is a wonderful place to add a few plants to; you can dot them along the windowsill and buy a few taller plants to arrange in floor standing pots as well.

One particular type of plant that really enjoys the surroundings of a conservatory is the fruit tree. Just imagine having small oranges and lemons growing beside you as you sit back and relax with a good book. These small trees also have the benefit of releasing those wonderful citrus aromas into the room. You may even be able to make use of some of the fruit when it is ripe enough.

You should always think about which way your conservatory faces before buying any plants for it. How much sun does it get during the day for example? This will vary as the year goes on, but you may still find you have to move certain plants from one spot to another to make the most of the conditions the weather brings you.

There is no doubt that a lot of people use their conservatory as a kind of greenhouse too. Those conservatory windowsills are perfect for starting off some seedlings or smaller plants before transferring them into the garden. And because you will use your conservatory virtually every day, you would not forget to water them and keep an eye on them.

As such, a conservatory is a wonderful thing to have if you enjoy gardening. Even though it has taken up a certain amount of your garden, some of the garden can be brought indoors to make up for it.
