Click Start, Choose Programs, Select Accessories, then Communications (only in Win98 OS), and you can now Select Direct Cable Connection. The HOST needs to be configured and the drive directories need to be selected for the GUEST access. The folder should be chosen. Just click File and click Sharing. Select Shared As and just simply select the type of access you want for the GUEST computer. For security purposes, you may opt to select a password. To complete the whole process, connect the cable between the computers and just select files that you want to copy.

Remote Access.

Did you say transferring of files from a desktop computer to a portable computer is possible? Yes, indeed! With remote access software, it is possible. It means two computers can communicate or connect through telephone lines and direct modems installed in each computer. There are many software companies that invent programs to assist the users for this remote access method. LapLink Professional software by Traveling Software Inc is priced at $149.99. With this software, you can already have a remote access to your data files and programs on a remote computer. It has to be installed on both PCs as well. But you have to take note that data transfers will be limited to the capacity of the modems and telephone lines installed on both computers. For a remote access connection on the computers, you can use USBs, cables (parallel or serial), infrared or through a network connection.

Hard Drive Copying.

Some known applications includes programs that makes one to copy files in one hard drive to another drive or simply making a copy of content data files for future backup system. It is thought to be a great help in today's hard drive as well as the way files are being transferred or copied.
