Sogou Search Engine's Mrket Share In China First Exceeded Google

The Chinese Internet company Sohu's subsidiary Sogou said its market share of online

search engine for the first time exceeded Google China and becomes the second largest search engine in China.

Sogou said, according to statistical analysis, as of September 30 of this year, in terms of usage rate, Sogou's market share is 7.09%. Google China's market share is 6.51%. Baidu's market share is 78.98%, taking the first place.

Last year, Sohu spin off Sogou business which it has operated for many years into a separate company. Sogou's core products include online search, browser, and input method. But the main revenue comes from search engine. Sogou search offers maps, shopping, music, pictures and many vertical search and local search service. It also formed partnerships with Alibaba Group's Taobao.

Sogou's Chief Executive Officersaid in an interview that he had expected in the fourth quarter of this year, Sogou's revenue will be over $ 20 million. The company will be profitable in the next year. The company's goal is to exceed Google China within a year.

Google last year shut up off the search services of Google.cn in the mainland. And it began to direct the users to the unfiltered Web site in Hong Kong. The Chinese mainland's search engine market turns into a pattern of hegemony by Baidu.

While in the US, Google search engine has a relatively good growth in the whole September, from 64.8% to 65.3%. Yahoo's share is declining. It is now 15.5%. The gap between the third Microsoft's Bing is gradually narrowing. Bing's market share in September is 14.7%.

Previously, Microsoft and Yahoo carried out the search business cooperation and seek to win over Google's leading position. But this did not achieve the desired results. It also led directly to Yahoo's own gradual loss of search market.
