These days, there are all kinds of reasons to look for things that provide comfort. From the daily news to the grade on our childs homework,work to social livesand everyting in between,many timeswewould prefer to stick our heads in the sand like an ostrich andhope thatitallgoes away.
Anger, sadness, grief and disgust are all emotions we expereince on a regular basis, and as adult we are expected to hold our heads high and weather the storm. Enter SOLACE.Since the past few days have been so gracious andgiven me reason to seek solace even MORE than I normally do, I decidedthis would be a good time toexplorethe word and its meaning
The definition of solace in the dictionary is "comfort in sorrow, misfortune or trouble. The alleviation of distress or discomfort". Easy words to say, but for many not so easy to find.
As I began my quest to find whatreally brings me solace I was surprised to find how manythings therereally are and how easy they are to find.Some of them, I'm painfully familiar with and I seekthemout like an addict looking fora drug. Sugar....it comes in at a close number one right next to shopping, but I digress....Otherscomeautomatically and some are sosubtleI never realizedhow important they were. Solace....even thoughwe need to look for it, its always close by.
My solace is found rather easily and most times inexpensive. There are times when it becomes costly, but with a little self discipline I can keep it under control.
Solace is found in the quiet ofaroom where all you can hear are the sounds ofthe house creakingthe whisper of the wind in the trees and the beat of your own heart.
Its the laughter of my now adultsons and the love between them. Brothers til the end.
Solace is the touch ofa breeze, thesmell of the rain and the sound of thunder rolling across the field.
Its the smell of my husband andthe warm touch ofhis hand.
Solace isstanding on the dock ,early morning at the lake, closing my eyes and listening to all of naturescreatures. Birds calling, fish jumping, otters chattering.
Its thecomfort of a warm soft sweatshirtagainst the wind on a Fall day.
Solace is the fragrant aroma and thefeel of good black dirt in my hands as I garden.
Its the sound of the mall, as I embark on some serious power shopping!
Solace is the feeling of the warm spring sun on my face after a longcold winter.
Its the feeling of contentment and pride when my Lab obeys his commands!

Its the warmth of a fire and the company ofa good book on adreary day.
Solace is remembering my grandmothers cooking and the sounds and smells of her home.

Its the coming together of friends and family, when you need them the most and sometimes, even when you dont.
