Solar Power From Discovery To Reality

In 1800, Alessandro Volta was the first man to develop an electric current

, in the form of a battery. From this finding, Michael Farraday was able to develop electric currents to run through magnets and copper wire which created how electricity is made. In 1879 Thomas Edison focused on inventing the first light bulb so that people could light up their homes and then in 1882 he went on to create the first power plant that could transfer electricity to people's homes within one square mile. Subsequently, in 1895 George Westinghouse created the first alternative-current power plant in Niagara Falls that could carry electricity to an almost 200 mile radius. These men are the founding fathers of the United States ever growing electricity demands; rising from only 2% of the country's energy in the 1920's to 41% today. What is this doing to the world as a whole and what can people do to solve the issues?

Most everything in homes today is powered by electricity and life would be hard to imagine without it. After all, people need refrigerators and lights right? What most people do not realize is that the more electricity used to power must-needed items, in turn creates more burned energy which then makes more pollution from power plants. According to the Department of Energy, the power plants cause the largest source of air pollution in the United States and because of this ever increasing air litter there should be no wonder why scientists are constantly speaking of safer ways to produce energy and stop global warming. Global warming is occurring because the power plants are emitting high CO2 levels into the atmosphere, which is literally like littering into our own air space. Did the founding electricity fathers know this when they began their venture over 200 years ago? Obviously not but there are now several ways to reduce energy usage within homes and businesses, which in turn will help reduce air pollution.

Environmentalists are always encouraging people to reduce pollution and one way is to make a renewable energy source. Saving energy is not just using energy-efficient appliances and light bulbs it is also taking the time to invest into the future of the planet's atmosphere. Replacing electricity produced from power plants will gradually reduce pollution in the atmosphere one person at a time. There are several ways to accomplish this; ranging from stand-alone (off-grid) systems to small solar electric systems which create renewable energy. The small solar electric systems, or photovoltaic systems, is probably the most commonly known renewable energy system. Solar Power is what most people call it because electricity is literally formed by sunlight. Some people believe if there is little sunlight then nothing will be powered. However, what most people do not understand is how the system works, how it generates power to the home or business. Cliff's Solar Panel Blog, located at http://howtosolarpanels.com/, has several articles and how-tos on everything about solar power. There are even articles about how to create solar power panels, living off the grid of electric companies and installing solar power into the home or business. Nevertheless, this option is becoming increasingly cheaper and a more efficient energy supply to homes and businesses. One should never be afraid to delve into the subject and take a leap of faith into the new world of renewable energy sources. Save the energy, save the planet, save the people one step at a time.
