Solution To Doubts That Come Up Before Kidney Transplant Surgery

There are some questions that would come up in your mind about the kidney transplant surgery and those are discussed below.

The transplant surgery is the option that is carried on to save a life of the person who's both the kidneys has failed and there is no other option left to save him/her. Whether it is you or any of your loved one, it is wise for you to know the solution to the most common questions that might arise in your mind. Below mentioned are a few questions that commonly arise in the minds of the people:

From where can you find a new kidney?

There are two major sources from where you can get a new kidney. The first source is from a person who is alive and the other is a person who is dead. The one who donates the kidney is known as kidney donor. In most of the cases, the living kidney donors are family members, spouse, child or even a person who has donated his/her kidney for a good cause or in case in need of money.

Another source through whom the kidney can be found is a dead person. This does not mean that every dead person's kidney is donated to the needy. The fact is that the kidney of the person dead is donated only if he or she has signed the organ donor form/card at the time before their death. This does not mean that any kidney can be donated to the person in need. After carrying on the required tests and scrutinizing the kidney, if the kidney is perfect to be donated only then the kidney transplant surgery takes place.

What happens during the transplant surgery?

The kidney transplant surgery is replacing the old kidney which is not functioning with a new healthy one. This is done to make sure that the kidney performs the required functions it has to. The kidney is replaced with the old kidney either on the lift side or the right side of the abdomen. The ureter of the new kidney is connected to the bladder of the person so that the urine can pass out.

What about the old kidneys?

In most of the cases, the old non functioning kidney is not removed from the body of the person after the kidney transplant surgery. But there are a few cases, in which the kidney is removed and those are mentioned below:

Infection which might even spread to the new healthy kidney

Reflux, which is a condition when backup of urine is made into the kidneys
