>> The earliest form of pinball was a French game originating in the 1700's, bagatelle.
>> The first pinball machines with coin slots were created between 1929 and 1931.
>> In 1931, table-top games had coin slots which took a penny.
>> Pinball was banned from the late 1940's until the mid 1970's in many states. Today, playing pinball on Sundays is still illegal in Ocean City, NJ.
>> The pinball game "Whiffle", one of the earliest games, was created in Youngstown, Ohio.
>> Pinball machines became electric in 1934.
>> By 1935, games had lights on the play area as well as backboard lights.
>> During WWII, there were no pinball machines in production, but older games were given a fresh, new look with new artwork. New machines went into production in 1946 following the war.
>> Bumpers were invented in 1938, but didn't become popular for another 10 years.
