Some Event Managment Jobs Of Interest
In days of high unemployment rates, you may think that there are no opportunities left in the tourist and service industries. However, you may be surprised at how many events of various types are ongoing. Event managment jobs on many levels are still being filled. If you have any of a variety of skills, one of these positions might be just right for you.
Some of the jobs will depend on the type of event that is being held. As an example, the personnel that would be needed to deal with a sporting event in a coliseum would be quite different than those needed for a seminar or conference in a hotel conference center. Some of the workers will be needed in either type of event.
Management jobs are the top level for the successful presentation of the event. The manager is the person who is responsible for all parts of the operation. They may have multiple roles or may assign duties to those individuals in various roles. Major types of duties that must be done include lighting, sound systems and electronics, heating or cooling, set up and tear down, guest relations, food and drink, ticket sales and signage.
No matter what type of event is going on, the facility needs to have dependable lighting. A sports event in a stadium relies on light on the field, as well as lights to allow fans to find their seats easily and safe. Usually a electrical crew will test the components of the lighting system prior to the event to make certain everything is working correctly. If spotlights or colored lights are to be used, many of those are computerized now, so that the computer system does the programming.
In a conference center, there may be several events going on at the same time, with different needs for sound systems, electronics and even projection screens. Laptop or notebook power capability can be important to the speaker and to the guests. There may be a need to place tables for writing purposes, or comfortable folding chairs around the room. Setting up dining tables and arranging for catering services to feed guests at a conference can be a big part of the event manager's responsibilities.
Actual preparation of the food may be done by a contracted caterer, or by hotel or conference center staff. The responsibility for serving guests or preparing a buffet line for meals will affect the jobs that need to be done. Clearing the trash or dirty dishes and flatware after the meals is another task, usually done by a serving crew.
Successful guest relations can be the feature that makes the event group want to come back year after year. Guests need help finding locations of meetings, the nearest post office and the best restaurants or nightclubs. Adequate signage to direct guests to meeting rooms or to the front lobby can be important. It is also important to maintain a professional and efficient attitude in dealing with the guests.
Event managment jobs are as varied as jobs in the general workplace. You have to be able to pay attention to details. Further, you need to enjoy being around large groups of people.
