We have so often heard about steroids but not too many of us fully understand what

these are and why many organisations oppose the misuse and abuse of this substance. Steroids are primarily chemical compounds that include corticosteroids, sex hormones, and cholesterol. There are several types of steroids but those that are most common to us are medically known as anabolic steroids. As an illegal substance, anabolic steroids are a synthetic compound related to testosterone, which can be injected or taken orally in tablet form. They are often used to help people gain endurance and muscle strength especially during rigorous training and throughout competitive events. However, there are several drawbacks to the use of anabolic steroids and this is why several authorities are pushing for both random and regular steroids testing to keep track of its use.

Some people view steroids testing as a notion of being oppressive and discriminating, but fail to recognise that testing for steroids poses a lot of benefits, not only to sports associations and school officials, but also to athletes and sports and fitness enthusiasts.

The use of anabolic steroids can indeed help people build more muscle strength and endurance however; it also has its ill effects. It can also cause hypertension, irritability, chills, depression, nausea, anorexia, vomiting, euphoria, anxiety, psychosis, and mood swings.

Steroids testing is a form of drug testing which are taken as a means to help identify those that are struggling with steroids and to help them free themselves from their addiction. It is also a way to monitor the use of this substance to help keep people from eventually becoming dependent on it. What is more is that it can be used to track levels of anabolic steroids in a person's body so that one can detect whether or not a person is using excessively.
