Some Famous Practitioners Of Viral Marketing
There is a constant effort by every marketing department of a company to attract its customers
, or maybe attract other's customers. This is like a war where everything is fair, and hence, the term viral marketing shall not make any marketer feel insulted. There is nothing unethical in this way of marketing, in fact, it has changed the way we use our resources. This is a way to optimally utilize the resent day channels of communication. Most of the time, people try to outrace each other by the humongous infrastructures they make to sustain and grow themselves. However, this is the most intelligent way of talking to your consumers. The number of people you connect to with the help of this method don't grow in days, but in seconds.
I shall be talking about some of the most illustrious examples of this type of marketing. This is very similar to the word of mouth method that was used in the ancient times to reach out to masses. It was in the times of 1960s that companies like Mary Kay and Amway started this form of advertisement. They started to sell their products to a few people and gave out some commission on getting more customers to the company. The more clients a person brought in, the more commission that person received. Soon it was a way of earning for many women. They started to sell out the products to their friends, and hence, the product gained popularity amongst its target users without having to work on it so much. Otherwise, they would have to identify the possible users and reach out to them. In this case, the product found its users on its own. One more thing that comes as a benefit in this form of advertisement is that your product becomes far more acceptable and popular than you would have thought. You can never precisely dictate the behavior of the consumer, and viral marketing uses this uncertainty to the benefit of the seller.
Another very famous example of viral marketing is Hotmail. They have been the ones who brought this method to the internet. With the help of the present users of the net services they reached out to people. Their objective was to make the product acceptable to the masses. Hence, they tagged the information about their product and the free emailing services along with the mail that were sent out by the existing users. One who subscribed to it became the carrier of the message. Hence, the virus spread across all the relations and infected every circle. This is the reason why this form of marketing is called so.
Even though this has been a very old way of doing marketing, still the benefits have not been outgrown by any other mode. Recently, the networking sites are also using this form marketing. One person, who joins in the network, brings in his whole troupe of friends to the site. Also, these sites are used by people to talk about themselves and their work. Hence, those who are in contact with that person know about him and so on.
