Simply put, a bikini is a two-piece swimsuit designed for women. One of the pieces covers the breasts while the other covers the buttocks. The other parts of the body are left exposed.

There are very many theories as to where the name originated from. The most common one suggests that it is named after Bikini Atoll, a place in Marshal Islands. Nuclear weapons are usually tested there. So, the Bikini was named so, because it causes a burst of excitement, similar to that of an atomic bomb.

Although, they were created in 1946, it took many years for them to be accepted in many countries. Some even took more than 15 years to accept it. Movies played a very huge role in making them acceptable in society. This is because the movie stars wore them, hence popularizing them among their audience, which grew in number each day.

Since then, they have become very popular around the beach and coastal cities. Not only do they bring out the beauty of the feminine body, they also keep one cool in the hot climate of most coastal towns. Therefore, it is common to find ladies clad in bikinis around the town and not necessarily in the beach or swimming pool, in most coastal towns.

Over the years, several modifications have been made on this product. To begin with, one can do away with the top piece and have a monokini. Another common modification is known as the tankini. In this case one combines a bikini bottom with a tanktop.

There are also string bikinis. They comprise of triangular pieces of cloth held together with strings. This type is more revealing than the original design. The latest style is known as the thong. This type has the lower piece of the bikini further reduced in size.

Whichever style you go for, you are assured to enjoy wearing the comfortable outfit. So, if you want to have some fun time at the beach, start by purchasing some bikinis. You will surely enjoy your time.
