However, in some cases, the breast cancer cells have already begun to spread, the surrounding muscles and other structures have to be excised as well.

In many cases, the surgery has to be combined with other breast cancer treatment. Usually, radiation and chemotherapy are used as adjuncts to the surgery. It is to eliminate the possible remaining breast cancer cells that may have been left out by the surgical procedure. However, these adjuncts can cause some bad side effects. According to statistics, most of the patients had problems with their digestive system functions while they were having their radiation therapy or chemotherapy sessions. Most patients also have hair lost.

Except these treatment approaches, other types of conservative treatment methods for breast cancer have also been developed. One of them is to use the hormonal drugs. Hormonal drugs come in the form of supplemental estrogen or progesterone. Depending on the level of these two hormones in the patient's body, these hormonal drugs are used in different amounts. Basically, these drugs will aid in blocking the function of the reproductive system hormones. This is important because the reproductive system hormones also take part in the regeneration and development of the breast tissues. When people have breast cancer, these breast tissues also include the malignant and benign cancer cells.

Most of these treatment procedures will decrease the patients' immunity level. This decreased level of immunity will make them more vulnerable to the illness. To prevent this from happening, most of the oncologists also consider it appropriate to include immunotherapy. This is done as part of the prophylactic procedures to prevent further weakness of the patient while undergoing other treatment procedures.
