RAM is a form of computer data storage. Random access memory means a storage technology which allows us to read and write the data as many times we require doing so. There are different types of RAM like DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) and SRAM (Static Random Access Memory). DRAM is more common type being used today in computers. SRAM is faster than DRAM. Despite SRAM being faster, its not as commonly used as DRAM because it is more economic than the SRAM.

Now SDRAM is a type of DRAM memory chip. It has been widely used since 1990s in computer world. The full form of SDRAM is Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory. SDRAM is a fast method of delivering computing capacity which runs at 133 MHz, which is much faster than the earlier RAM technologies. As the name itself explains SDRAM (Synchronous dynamic random access memory) is dynamic random access memory (DRAM) which has a synchronous interface. Actually DRAM has an asynchronous interface, which means that as quickly the changes are done in the control input, it responds.

SDRAM has a synchronous interface which means that it waits for a clock signal before responding to the control inputs and therefore it is said to be synchronized with the computers system. SDRAM is widely used in computers. In short SDRAM is an extremely powerful method of storing and accessing data. The newer kind of chip is double-data-rate SDRAM( DDR SDRAM ) which is also known as DDR1 which is superseded by the newer DDR2 and then the DDR3 SDRAM and DDR4 is being designed now and is being expected by the year 2012 in the market.
