Some Mistakes To Avoid Making When You Use Acrylic Paints

Mistakes are a common occurrence when you first begin acrylic painting

. As you make those mistakes, you will grow in your experience and start to progress in your skill. In the following paragraphs, we will cover the most common mistakes made by beginning acrylic painters.

The first mistake to stay away from is not utilizing plenty of variety in your painting. Intriguing paintings possess variety. They make people intrigued and curious, and the observer desires to go back to get another look. So, how should you make an intriguing piece of art? Utilize various brushstrokes, values, and techniques in your piece. Alter brushstroke directions or combine various techniques in the same piece.

The next mistake to keep away from is copying or getting too technical. To honestly paint a subject, it isn't necessary to copy the subject precisely as you view it. I'm talking about connecting to the true painter and honestly painting your impression of what you're viewing. This is the way your inside creativity blossoms on the canvas. It's what separates artists such as Monet and Van Gogh from the majority of other artists. Each of these artists put their own heart and style into their paintings.

I think your own individual creativity surfaces as soon as you quit depending on the theories and technicalities related to art. I don't mean that you should not learn theory and techniques, but eventually we have to put this stuff behind us and allow our individuality to do a little of the creating. No matter what, do not imitate other painters. It's okay to be influenced by other painters, merely ensure you let your individual style shine in your work.

Avoid making the mistake of ignoring your subjects. You must observe your subjects carefully so that you become inspired. Consider an anatomy course if you desire to be a portrait artist. Spend quality time outdoors if landscapes are what you prefer. You need to be sure to do this in order to do your subjects justice when it comes time to paint.

Another common mistake is settling for cheaply made art supplies. While the extremely talented among us could create a masterpiece using a Q-tip, this might be more trouble than it's worth for the rest of us. The fact is that the quality of your work can be directly affected by the quality of the materials that you used. Buy a cheap brush, the hairs will fall out,and it will spread the paint around in a cheap looking manner. Buy cheap paints, and you will have muddy tones and a difficult consistency to work with. So buy the best that you can afford, and do everything that you can to keep your supplies in good shape.

The next thing that you should be aware of is the bad habit of being stingy with the amount of paint you use on your canvas. This is a common trap for beginners to fall into; they don't want to be wasteful, so they put just a tiny amount of paint onto their canvasses. While this is understandable in terms of not wanting to spend too much money on supplies, it really doesn't make for an interesting painting. If you are basically trying to spread around a little glob of paint, then you are more or less staining, not painting. So be bold, and load up your brush to put an adequate amount of paint on your canvas.

Another error that you need to stay away from is over analyzing. You can give yourself the equivalent of "writers block" by being critical of your work as you are paining. You need to keep from getting upset by just going with your artistic instincts and having faith in yourself.

Hopefully, this article has proven to be beneficial to your journey into acrylic painting. Remember, do not get discouraged or frustrated with your painting. Mistakes, as we said at the beginning, should be viewed as a natural part of the learning process. They will occur. How you learn from them will determine your level of enjoyment from acrylic painting. Now get painting!
