Some Of The Best Abs And Oblique Exercises That You Have Never Heard Of

I am going to give you a few of my favorite exercises for abs and obliques

. But, I want to tell you why they are my favorite first.

The trick to getting a great set of abs is twofold. You need to burn fat and build muscle. Exercises like sit ups and crunches build muscle but do not burn fat well. This is because it takes 3,500 calories to burn a single pound of fat. When you realize that the average person only burns 2,000 calories in an entire day you begin to realize how little a sit up does in terms of burning fat.

To burn fat most people do cardio exercises. However, this is not as an effective method of burning fat as people might think. You can run a few miles and only burn a few hundred calories, leaving you about 3,000 to go to lose a single pound of fat. And, Once the exercise is over the fat burning benefits are over too. Plus the fact that Traditional cardio exercises do not build muscle.

The reason building muscle is important is because muscle weighs more than fat and the more muscle you have the more fat you will burn and it is all about burning fat because if you are over 10% body fat for a man and 16% for a woman you will not see your abs or obliques to begin with.

So it is kind of difficult to find exercises that combine the two elements you need, the short term fat burning effects of cardio and the long term fat building effects of muscle. However, by using kettle bells you can combine cardio with muscle building and burn as many as 20 calories a minute. There is nothing that compares with using kettle bells to burn fat and build muscle.

If you are not familiar with kettlebells, and most people are not, they look like cannonballs with handles. Because of their design they are ideal for swinging and, as I said before, bring an added cardio element that is usually missing in weight lifting.

The figure 8 with a lift is my all time favorite ab and oblique exercise. It is fun and easy and all you do is pass a single bell back and forth between your legs in a figure 8 fashion. Each time you hand off stand straight up and lift the device to your chest before bending over and passing the bell between your legs again.

The straight legged dead lift with a twist is another very easy and very effective workout. Stand straight up with your feet together and holding a single KB in both hands. Now, bend over keeping your legs straight as you twist to one side or the other lowering the KB to the side of your feet. Stand straight up again and do the same thing on the other side.

The one armed clean with a twist is also great for obliques. Simply clean (lift) the KB to your chest while you are twisting at the hips. When you clean with your right hand you are working your left side and visa versa.

Do these exercises frequently enough and you will start looking like a Greek statue!
