You should have the ability to properly listen to and understand instructions. You also need to be able to interpret hand gestures and body language in case the patients speech faculty is impaired. This will help you to act quickly and appropriately whenever he needs urgent assistance.

Lastly, you need to be able to do critical thinking. In dealing with various situations, you have to use logic and analysis so you know exactly how to react to a given situation.
