Some Side Effects Of Liposuction Are A Natural Part Of The Recovery Process

Patients should be well aware that scars, bruising

, and swelling are the most common side effects for liposuction surgery. They happen for every patient. The recovery process takes time but in the end most patients are happy with their new look and their results.

Swelling and lumpiness usually take several months to disappear completely. Often times the swelling will become concentrated in the joints. The swelling most often settles in the patient's knees, ankles, labia, or scrotum. It is good for the patient to begin moving around as soon as they can to help reduce the swelling and to prevent blood clots in the legs.

The surgeon should be informed if the patient notices any excess swelling. Also if the patient has noticed any unusual swelling the surgeon needs to know immediately. It is important that the surgeon is kept informed of any changes in the amount of swelling or other side effects that the patient is experiencing.

One of the best indications that surgeon has to know if there may be any other complications is if there is an increases in swelling. Doctor-patient communication is extremely important in order to maximize liposuction results and minimize recovery time. This is the best way to avoid any extreme problems.

Some patients experience a lumpy appearance in the area that the fat was removed from. This is a side effect that will usually clear up after six months or so. If the procedure was performed on the upper thigh then the patient may experience what is called thrombophlebitis, or inflammation of the veins, in that area. Eventually, the lumpy areas will smooth out and the skin will reshape to the body.

Bruising happens in every case as well but it is usually one of the more minor side effects. The area may be tender which might cause some discomfort, but it is frequently the most short-lived side effect. Often times, bruises will fade away in as little as one month from the surgery date.

Bruising can be minimized depending on the technique the surgeon uses. Bruises and scars can also be minimized with proper care during and after surgery. Scaring may happen but it is usually in a place that is unnoticeable or it is so small it is hardly visible.

Patients should make sure their surgeon addresses any concerns about bruising, swelling, lumps, scaring and any other side effects that might occur after surgery. There are many different remedies not discussed here that can help with the complete recovery of any side effects.
