Meloxicam is marketed worldwide under different brand names. This nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug is a known analgesic, anti-inflammatory and fever reducer. What is not known is that this drug is also used in the veterinary field, under the brand name Metacam.

A type of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), Meloxicam is a known analgesic, anti-inflammatory and fever reducer. This NSAID was formulated by Boehringer-Ingelheim and available worldwide under different brand names such as Movalis, Moxen, Recoxa and Melox.

Under the Metacam brand name, this NSAID is also used in the veterinary field. It is indicated for pain management and inflammation due to osteoarthritis in dogs. The principal side effects in animals include gastrointestinal irritation such as diarrhea, ulceration and vomiting.

Meloxicam is prescribed to relieve tenderness, stiffness, swelling and pain caused by osteoarthritis, which is a type of arthritis caused by the breakdown of the joints' lining, and rheumatoid arthritis, a type of arthritis caused by the swelling of the joints' lining. This drug is also effective to use in children who are suffering from juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
