Some Tips For A Vegetarian Barbecue
Many vegetarians still enjoy having their food cooked on the barbecue
. There's no reason why you can't have some great vegetarian meals that are healthy and incredibly tasty at the same time. If you make a few simple preparations, you'll be able to whip up some fantastic veggie meals.
Choosing the right vegetables to grill is probably the most important step. This is important because some vegetables just don't taste very good when grilled. Most vegetarians know what vegetables will work well on the grill and which ones won't. Grilling the vegetables enhances their flavor and gives them a rich, smoky taste. Even hearty meat eaters will enjoy the taste of these barbecued treats.
Onions, peppers, and carrots are three vegetables that grill extremely well. The chemical reaction in grilling causes these veggies to release natural sugars that are simply scrumptious! Sliced zucchini and tomatoes are two classics that when grilled taste great. One of the smartest ways to grill these veggies is to put them on a skewer and place the whole thing over the flames, turning slowly. This is called a kabob. If you enjoy meat, you can even add some chunks of steak or poultry to the skewer.
Marinating your vegetables prior to grilling is key. There are many different types of marinade and some can be bought all ready to go. In my opinion, the best marinade is a simple one. Some olive oil, water, salt, fresh basil and oregano is a simple yet tasty marinade to accent your vegetables with. You should cover your vegetables with marinade and then cover the bowl with some plastic wrap. The vegetables should then be stored in the refrigerator for at least one hour for best results.
An important thing to remember before cooking your vegetables is to clean the grill thoroughly. I recommend cooking the vegetables before cooking the meat, and covering the grill with foil first. The reason is that a true vegetarian might be apprehensive to eat vegetables cooked on the same grill as meat. Juices and particles from the meat can contaminate the vegetables and not only will they not be suitable for a vegetarian to eat, it will adversely affect the taste also.
There is no reason why you should feel uncomfortable about inviting vegetarians to your holiday barbecue. As long as the foods are prepared properly, they will enjoy them just as much an anyone else.
