Some Tips On Getting The Sound Right For Your Restaurant
You may have the best chef, menu and waiting staff in town but there may be another factor negatively affecting the success of your restaurant
. And this could be the sound. Apparently, many complaints customers have with a restaurant may not involve the food or service. If the sound quality, levels and background music are not appealing, a dining experience can be ruined.
So once you have achieved a premium service in both the kitchens and waiting service of your restaurant, it is definitely worth considering the sound quality and music you play in your establishment. If there is no background music provided then customers can be distracted by the noise of the surrounding conversations and parties. Furthermore, sound and noise from the kitchen could leak into the dining area which can disrupt a relaxed atmosphere to eat in. And this may severely affect their enjoyment of the meal. So be aware that no sound is not necessarily more peaceful.
Alternatively, playing music too loud can be just as unpleasant. I have had numerous meals out tainted by music being too loud and therefore listening, talking and keeping up with conversations becomes tiresome and difficult. So, it is more likely customers will leave earlier and spend less money on drinks and extra courses if they are not relaxed and calm.
I have been surprised by some establishments that will play not only loud music but also inappropriate music that is not likely to appeal to all. Not everyone will want to dine with the soundtrack of rock music or dated pop music with dominating lyrics. Big powerful speaker systems are just not suitable for restaurants. If you want to play loud music, then provide a music bar experience, not a lounging dining service.
The quality of the speaker installation is also important here. The speakers may not need to be large or too powerful but they also do not want to be too small. It is more advisable to play more powerful speakers at a low volume level, than to have to push small speakers to their maximum level. Speakers that are too 'tinny', in other words with too much treble or presence range, then listeners will soon want to leave your establishment.
So, background music and the restaurant speaker installation should be intended to enhance the atmosphere you are wanting to create a lively yet relaxed ambience in which to enjoy your meal at your leisure.
