Some Tips To Overcome Amplifier Problems
There is nothing so uncommon if your car audio system faces certain technical problems
. This mostly happens due to long usage or age. Just as any other commodity, the accessories of car audio system like amplifiers also get damaged and require replacement of their parts. Although, this does not mean that a new amplifier is needed but even a there can be problem with a small wire in the amplifier which can requires replacement.
Suppose your car's speakers or stereos have started making popping and hissing sounds, the important part that you should find out the problem before you change the whole amplifier and go for a new one. The damaged parts of amplifier can be easily replaced.
The most common issue in the amplifier faults is the grounding of the amplifier. If you see that the ground wires is damaged or broken then remove it as soon as possible. Now connect a new ground wire in place of the old one.
Another problem might be due to the voltage fluctuation that is the required voltage is not given to the amplifier. So check the proper voltage through a voltmeter by connecting it to the main power line and then power up the car. This will give you an idea of the correct voltage reaching the amplifier through a battery. Usually, this voltage should be 13 volts. So, if this voltage is not there then you have to change the power cable, the alternator and the battery depending on the kind of problem your amplifier has.
Even after going through the above two steps, you do not find the problem then look whether the fuse that is connected is of the proper size for the required power input. This is because if the fuse connected is not proper then it might result in under powering of the amplifier system, which in turn results in bad quality sound and distortion. So, check whether the fuse is proper or not. An audio specialist can easily find this out from his calculations and tell whether the fuse is ideal for your amplifier or not.
Other test that can be conducted to find out the problem is by disconnecting the speakers of the current amplifier and connecting another pair of speakers to the amplifier. If you get good quality sound then the problem is with the speakers otherwise there some issue with the amplifier.
If there is some signal problem then there might be some fault in the RCA cable. This is an electrical cable which carries video and audio signals. The connectors are generally color coded to ensure easy and quick connection. So, you can check your RCA cable by connecting another RCA cable and if you get a good quality sound then the fault is in the earlier placed RCA cable.
However, even if the problem persists, you might require a new amplifier. But before buying a new one, it is better to take an advice of the manufacturer. No doubt, finding out the problem may take your effort and time; however, it will save the money and help you to continue with the current amplifier even for another few years happily.
