Some Unique Storage Devices For Compact Discs
Storage devices for compact discs include jewel cases
, jackets, digipaks, sleeves, and spindles.
CDs may have taken over the old vinyl records before when it comes to durability and also quality of the songs they can play, but they're still not fully indestructible. They're still fragile items which must be protected. Hence, different disk storage items can be utilized to keep them safe. Check out this article to learn about the different types of disk packages.
Jewel case
Jewel cases are the basic for storing CDs and DVDs. These kinds of cases are made from rigid clear plastic that will supply adequate protection to the CD or DVD inside. Inside of this case is a semi-rigid plastic insert that will securely hold and lock the CD or DVD in place. It includes 2 sides that are connected to each other by a hinge that snaps into place during closure to secure the case and the disk inside it. While other types of storage methods may have come up, the jewel case remains popular due to its rigidity; and not to mention all its different appealing colors. Jewel cases may be more costly compared to the other types, however, that has not stopped people from buying.
Jackets
Jackets are another mode for storing disks. They are made of cardboard and have an identical appearance to the jacket for the 33-1/3 rpm vinyl records. While they may not be able to provide the same level of protection as the jewel cases, they are cheaper and occupy less storage place. Unlike jewel cases, jackets don't have any system that will keep the disks securely inside. But they can have appealing prints or labels on the front and back.
Digipak
Digipaks are becoming increasingly popular for many reasons. An authorized product of AGI Media, this storage device offers a variety of configurations for storing the disk inside. Depending on the size, it has several panels to hold a number of disks inside. It also has semi-rigid molded inserts glued inside each panel to firmly secure the disk in place. Not only are these storage devices more cost-efficient, their cardboard material make them preferred choice of customers with ecological concerns.
Sleeves
Paper sleeves are the cheapest form of storage device for CDs or DVDs. As the name suggests, they are sleeves made of paper materials. Some paper sleeves may also have a window on the middle that is covered with plastic to provide a view of the disk inside. While paper sleeves are extremely inexpensive, they obviously do not provide much protection to the disks inside them. Nevertheless, they're very handy and they occupy very little of space. As a substitute for paper sleeves, there are also plastic sleeves that are available. These are just like paper sleeves, being affordable and very handy, but they can guard the disks inside them from dampness, like a liquid spill, unlike those made from papers.
Spindles
Spindles allow for storage of many disks loaded on top of each other through the rigid plastic spindle in the middle, that are then covered by transparent plastic to secure them. These are mostly used in stores which sell blank disks since they cannot offer much protection for disks that already have files stored on them.
Disks should always be kept in their cases after being played so that they will be protected from dust and scratches and will stay in good condition for as long as possible.
