Trauma, getting elbowed in the jaw or a mother not carefully rearing the baby's head up allows the pad to become dislocated. The problem has been either dismissed or undetected. Even a muscle tension headache, if the muscle goes into spasm and the ligaments that pull the pad back are stretched excessively, can cause displacement.

Since the procedure is relatively new and is difficult, to be able to correct the problem, it involves shortening the elastic ligament attached to the end part of the pad, and then repositioning the pad which is in good condition. The measurement of the ligament to be removed is based on the distance of the pad. Once the pad cannot be of use anymore, that is the only time that a prosthetic pad is used.

People mostly affected by TMJ ranges from 15 to 18 years old. The joint being so close to the ear canal, it then causes ear pain which they said is the start of the problem. A few TMJ victims will be living with this problem which could even go worse. In a span of three to four years, arthritis can develop if inflammation of the joint continually sets in. The pain was so intense that it was as if something in her ear was being ripped out.

This pain medication helped her get some good sleep even though it keeps weary. No doctor was able to give her any answer about her problem which made her slowly lose hope. The thought of killing herself sometimes comes into her because this incident made her so depressed to the point that she thinks this pain is endless. Some actually do give up because they think that there is no end to the pain.

Nerves on the right side of her head, down into her arm are the things that were brought about by nerve irritation and the same thing goes to the muscle spasms that she has been experiencing. The entire right side of hers sometimes feels like it were a charley horse or muscle cramp. An estimate on rehabilitation usually takes three months. During the first two weeks after the surgery, patients are instructed to get plenty of rest. The patients are now beginning the process of exercising their jaw to achieve a mouth opening of 40 millimeters.
