Centuries of innovation and improvements in the field of prescription glasses
, have given rise to countless types and divisions of the prescription glasses. Once known only by their reading glass design, users now have many more options to choose from, which each design having its own set of pros and cons. According to your personality, requirement and the kind of look you want to put on, you can choose the frame design and the type of lenses for your pair of prescription glasses.
Generally, prescription glasses are available in three different frame design fully rimmed, semi rimmed and rimless. Fully rimmed glasses, as the name goes, are the glasses with the rim protecting the lenses. The most kind of prescription glasses when it comes to shape, fully rimmed glasses are preferred by many, due to the various colours and attitude that can be flaunted on the rim. On the downside, the weight of the pair is at its highest.
Semi rimless glasses, offer the protection of the fully rimmed glasses and combine them with the lightness of the rimless glasses. With the absence of a rim, rimless glasses are the most light-weight but are on the high end of the price range.
When it comes to lenses, prescription glasses are classified as single vision, bifocal and varifocal glasses. When the lenses have only one power throughout, they are termed as the
single vision glasses. Bifocal glasses have lenses divided into two horizontal halves. The upper half is used for viewing objects at a distance, while the lower half is used for reading purposes. Due to the presence of the dividing line, the transition between the halves is huge and takes time to get adjusted to. This problem gets solved by the varifocal glasses, also known as the progressive glasses. The lenses of these glasses have gradually increasing power from the top towards the bottom. Just like bifocals, the upper and the lower region of the lenses are used for distance and near vision, while the intermediate area is used for viewing objects at an average distance, ex: while using computers.
Finally,
prescription glasses can also be divided into shapes like round, rectangle, square, oval etc. The choice of the shape depends on your face structure. Every human being has a different face structure and they are generally classified into six categories round, diamond, oval, oblong, square and triangle. Different face structures require different frame design and it will be wise to know yours first before selecting your prescription glasses.
