Sony Ericsson vs iPhone
While Apple's iPhone was long the leader of the smartphone pack
, new Android phones have begun to overtake it by offering greater processing power and user features. One of the most exciting new Android phones to take on the iPhone challenge is the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10.
When comparing the Xperia X10 with the iPhone 3G S, a good place to start is the processor, and for sheer power the Sony Ericsson phone is the clear leader. Its 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor trumps the iPhone's 600 MHz, and the phone also delivers superior 3D acceleration.
The Xperia X10 also features extra storage, with 1GB included in the phone and up to 16GB available, including an 8GB MicroSD card that ships with the phone. No extra memory card comes as standard with the iPhone 3G S, and speaking of removable features, the Xperia X10 even has a removable battery, something the Apple phone falls short on.
Beyond the mechanics of the devices, the Xperia X10 provides a higher screen resolution to users, meaning improved clarity when watching movies in 480x854 resolution (WVGA), compared to the iPhone's 480x320 screen. While the iPhone's 3.5 inch screen previously exceeded the 4 inch screen of the Xperia X10 due to the latter's lack of a multi-touchscreen, recent upgrades have seen this technology comes to Android phones as well.
Not only is the Xperia X10 a better platform for watching movies, but with its 8.1 megapixel camera, compared to the iPhone's three megapixels, it's also a greatly improved phone for taking and recording images; with features to standardise light levels, remove red eye and stabilise sound and image. While some of these features are available on the iPhone through application downloads, they come as standard on the Xperia X10.
When heading online, both phones offer excellent email and wireless internet connectivity, though the Xperia X10 includes a Webkit Web Browser with Javascript enabled for full page rendering. While the iPhone has Javascript enabled, it does not come with Flash, and also lacks the find on page feature to make mobile web browsing quicker.
Apple's iPhone is still a strong contender in the smartphone market, but the future of the industry could be defined by Android products such as the
Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. Featuring the latest version Android, OS 1.6, as well as a host of social networking features, the powerful Xperia X10 has become the choice of savvy smartphone consumers.
