South African Folk Tales - tales from the Zulu, Xhosa, Bushmen and Other People of South Africa

South African Folk Tales - tales from the Zulu

, Xhosa, Bushmen and Other People of South Africa

It is with immense thanks to James A. Honey that this volume was ever compiled. I remember as a child attending the Infant and Junior Schools in Westville in South Africa during the 1960's and having some of these stories read in class which resulted in gales of laughter.

In this volume you will find 44 tales which are distinctively South African in flavour. Stories from the San Bushmen, the Zulus and Xhosas to name a few. Stories of The Lost Message, The Monkey's Fiddle, The Leopard, The Ram, And The Jackal, The Lion, The Jackal, And The Man, Tink-Tinkje, The Lioness And The Ostrich, Crocodile's Treason, The White Man And Snake, Tortoise Hunting Ostriches, The Judgment Of Baboon, When Lion Could Fly, The Origin Of Death and more.

It is uncertain if the Westville Junior Primary or Westville Senior Primary schools still have an original volume in thier libraries or if these stories are still told in schools around South Africa. The more the pity if they aren't because these these stories are a part of every South Afican's culture, no matter their background.

It is therefore appropriate that this unique volume of South African Folk Tales be revived almost a century after they were first published so that they can benefit those South African children who, for a myriad of reasons, would not normally receive a full education. This book was especially republished to raise funds for the Westville Boys High Scholarship fund, where gifted but underprivileged South Africans are given a chance of first class

high school education.
