Southern Style Barbecue Sauces And Grilling Methods

It is known that barbecue sauce is used as the sauce that you pour over your meat

while you are cooking the meat, to put on the surface right before it is served, or to be used as a dipping condiment. These sauces can be spicy, sweet or sour, and tangy in taste.

The most well known barbecue sauce recipes are made up of tomato sauce, vinegar and sugar. In some regional areas of the United States, vinegar and mustard based sauces are the rave. Barbecue sauce recipes are quite frequently used in combination with other foods, too.

Depending on the region, you will find that each has their very own barbecue sauce style and often they will not disclose the secrets to the recipes.

Here are six of the different styles of Southern barbecue sauce recipes:


1.Kansas City- thick and brown tomato molasses

2.South Carolina- vinegar, mustard, black pepper and spices

3.North Carolina- vinegar and pepper flakes

4.Alabama- white mayonnaise, vinegar and pepper

5.Texas- tomato sauce, vinegar, pepper, Tabasco, chili flakes and molasses

6.Arkansas- thin tomato souped base with vinegar, pepper and molasses

Grilling methods that can be used are built-in grills or free standing. Built in grills are barbecue heads that are fitted into a perfect cabinet and finished with either rocks or tiles. Building a grill with all of the right accessories will give you the opportunity to develop the perfect outdoor kitchen for barbecues.

This is a great idea if you are thinking of entertaining primarily at home, but if you would like a grill that is more flexible to transport then having a free standing grill would be a better option. These grills can be easily transported and hooked up to a fuel source. Free standing grill units come in many different sizes like rotisseries, smoke boxes or side burners.

Just remember that grilling and barbecue are two different methods of cooking. Grilling is fast cooking over a high heat; barbecuing is a slow cooking process over indirect heat. And although most barbecues are prepared outdoors, it has also become a common method for restaurants where it is usually cooked in large brick ovens built primarily for that purpose.

When considering beginning your barbecuing adventure, look into what kind of grilling unit you would like to have as well as the style of barbecue sauce you would like to use for your meal. Remember that some barbecue sauce recipes are better used for slow cooking while others are good for grilling.
