History says that the Giralfaro lighthouse that existed on the same site before the 14th century. Historians believe that Yusef 1st built it and the name Giralfaro comes from the word Gebel-Faro which means rock of light. Alcazabilla is one of the oldest structures in Malaga and it was built in the year 1040. It is considered the most impressive fortresses in the region. The beauty of the fort is in the arrangement of its walls. There are two separate walls that protect the fortress with a ramp that connects to the main street of Alcazabilla. The walls are built of brick and the rectangular tower in the background of a huge mountain has actually enhanced the beauty of the structure.
The interesting feature of the Plaza del Obispo cathedral is in its construction. With a happy blend of Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance, the construction of this cathedral suggests that it has taken many decades to build. Outside the cathedral there is an unfinished tower. The doors of the cathedral are richly decorated. Inside the cathedral are the most wonderful paintings on the pillars and walls of the cathedral which have improved the beauty of the interior; they are the centre of the attraction for visitors. Other works of art include marble pieces in various colours.
