Spain is not working. Why?

Spain is not working

Spain is not working. Why?

In case you have not noticed Spain is deflating economically faster than a punctured balloon. Is that an indication that the country has turned the corner that from here on in things will begin to improve?

Sadly not, it merely indicates what most people living here can see, that Spain is deflating economically faster than a deflating balloon. Now do not get me wrong, I am not a doom and gloom person, but before a problem can be fixed, a problem must be identified, this is not Rocket Science, agreed?

So what is the core problem that Spain is currently facing? Mismanagement, mismanagement on a truly colossal, eye watering scale. Would you like some small indications of some of the core problems that Spain must confront and wake up to?

Ok, I live in the "real Spain" it's beautiful, nearly everything about it is beautiful, but politically speaking it is living in Cuckoo land. Allow me to elaborate. I will mention no names, to protect the guilty.

A small village, population 2,500, has more, or less during the past 12 months increased its bank overdraft by some 2,300,000 Euros, quite a sum no? I guess you would all love to know the name of this benevolent Bank manager, right? So was this for crucial repairs? Nope, gentrification, that's right, making the place look nicer, or from where I sit taking the real out of "real Spain". Now this might not normally be a problem, but right now?

Another example, another small village, similar population, but even better bank manager, overdraft of some 6,000,000 Euros, will shortly be opening a Cactus Museum, the cost? 2,400,000! Now I know this is a prickly subject, but would you know the difference between a teenage and an advancing in year's cactus, and more to the point, is this going to attract tourists from every corner on the planet? What kind of business plan was presented for this one and again who was the bank manager? I'm sure we would all love to know.

No problem I hear you say, there will be elections in May and these idiots will be kicked out, well I do not want to be a party pooper, but the opposition seem to have read the same book. The village that has just spent 2,400,000 for some old Cactus, remember? They are proposing a grand sporting arena at a cost that will again be in the economic stratosphere! I will remind you, this is a village of some 2,500 inhabitants, 40% of whom are probably aged 65 plus. Is this an indication that the opposition, having had 8 years to study the errors committed by the current government have used their time wisely?

There is a serious point to my observations, a very serious point. These are just two tiny examples of the unreality that even now is pervasive in Spain. The central government has delegated control to some 17 autonomous regions, Stalin named them "Oblasts" and these autonomous regions have in turn sub delegated to numerous delegations and sub-commities and economically it is a disaster.

This wonderful country needs to look very seriously at its very democratic foundations, dispassionately and I hope for the 20% plus of its unemployed, critically review its very economic existence in the 21st century and fix it.

Can it, does the country have the wisdom, the knowledge, and the professionals sufficiently skilled to help the politicians make the right changes, the right choices? Absolutely, completely, but and a big but this one. They are not politicians; they are intelligent individuals that have devoted themselves within various and important specialised fields.

The politicians of Spain need to become wise and acknowledge to themselves that which they do not know and seek the advice, counsel of the huge choice of highly educated, intelligent and skilled professionals within the various fields of expertise and utilise their not inconsiderable knowledge in recommending solutions, alternatives and accountability. The Spanish people and country deserve that much respect. Then and only then will this country that has so much to offer and contribute to the world, climb out of the hole it has created for itself.
