Spain's music has a long and vibrant history

Spain's music has a long and vibrant history. In fact, Spanish music has made a deep impact on Western music culture as well. Generally, Spanish music is associated with traditions such as acoustics guitar and flamenco dance. But in reality the music in Spain changes from one region to other. For example, flamenco has originated in Andaluca, the southernmost part of Spain and is quite known in the region. Similarly Galician music has a lot of matching with its Celtic cousins in France and Ireland.

The next door Basque music is an entirely different music genre. Difference kinds of folk music can be heard in different regions such as Catalonia, Aragon, Castile, Valencia and Llin. Music in Madrid and Barcelona are known to have been centered on contemporary theme and have made huge contributions in the world of hip-hop, pop, rock and heavy metal music. Different cities of Spain play a host to different celebrations and music festival each year.

Tamborrada de San Sebastian

The San Sebastian Drum Festival is a lively celebration that begins at midnight on January 19th and come to an end on the following midnight. San Sebastian lies in the Basque region towards the northeast direction of Spain. During the festival a procession of marchers get together to wind down the whole city streets while playing drums in order to celebrate the festival. The next morning, the children get involve having a drum procession.


Feria de Abril

This annual week-long celebration takes place in April. Participants get together near Rio Guadalquivir to set up hundreds of dazzlingly colored tents that are decorated using paper lanterns. Flamenco dancing, Bullfights and a number of other games steal the show.

Hogueras de San Juan

This festival held annually in Valencia, Alicante between 20th to 29th June. The festival celebrates shortest night in the year that in fact coincides with summer solstice. Street fronts are decorated using branches and leaves. Men indulge in street wandering and singing love and sanjuanera songs to girls.

Fiesta de Verano

This festival is pride of Malaga that belongs to Andalusia. The festival kicks-off its yearly Fiesta de Verano by some great fireworks display. The event takes place in the month of August on the second Friday. During the festivity, participants get dressed in traditional costumes and perform dance to Seville-style flamenco and malaguenas music. This is purely a local style of flamenco.

The joy of Spanish people is beyond imagination during these festivals. This joy and compassionate nature makes Spain, all the more attractive.
