High-profile events are often marked with memorabilia such as badges and keyrings and the visit by the pope this month is no exception.
From September 16th until 19th, he will attend a number of events in England and Scotland and it is the first such trip in decades - making it highly significant for Catholics across the UK.
The pontiff will fly to Scotland first, where he will be greeted by the Queen. Following this, he will celebrate a holy mass in Glasgow.
Meanwhile, when he makes his way south over the border to England, he will make a speech at Westminster Hall, after which he will meet the leaders of other Christian traditions.
In addition, he will take evening prayer with the Archbishop of Canterbury and lead a prayer vigil and beatify Cardinal John Henry Newman.
A considerable amount of official merchandise is being produced in honour of the trip to help people celebrate the occasion.
Among the items are electronic flashing candles and fridge magnets.
Meanwhile keyrings are also to be sold and may prove popular among the tens of thousands of worshippers who are expected to attend the public events during the four-day visit.
Those who do not make it to the gatherings may also be keen to show their support for their religious leader by purchasing the badges and alternative articles they can get.
Other items that retailers are expecting to sell include papal flags that could be used to decorate churches and schools.
Indeed, a Roman Catholic spokesman said parishes are showing a keen interest in getting their hands on such things.
Many of the products feature the phrase "Heart Speaks unto Heart".
Pope Benedict XVI was elected to his role as the 265th successor of St Peter in April 2005 and is only the second non-Italian leader of the church since 1522.
