Just click on 'Disk Cleanup'. When selecting files to clean up, or delete, Windows will give you information to help you decide. I would recommend you to check on 'Recycle Bin', 'Compressed Files', 'Temporary Files' and 'Internet Files'. When finished selecting click on "OK" to start the cleanup.
Disk Cleanup might take some time if you have a lot of files that are unneeded. But you can still continue to surf around the net while waiting for it to finish.
Add or Remove Programs
The 'Disk Cleanup' can help you get rid of some unnecessary files, but you may also need to clean out some unnecessary programs too. You can do this by running the Add/Remove Program Utility in windows. This application is located in the control panel. Browse through the list of programs and check if it is important or just a useless program.
If you find a program that are not really in used, you can simply highlight the program and click the uninstall button. Windows will than begin the uninstallation process for you. It is also recommended to restart your computer after the uninstallations. This will dump files that are held temporarily. The add or remove programs utility is very useful, but not all of the programs are to be remove because some of them are your windows Updates and default window programs. So look at what you are uninstalling.
Defragment
Windows has created a utility that is meant to rearrange files so that they are no longer fragmented or disorganized but instead sit right next to each other. This utility is call 'Disk defragmenter'.
You can run the disk defragmenter by clicking on:
Start> All Programs> Acessories> System Tools> Disk Defragmenter.
In fact, this is also an alternative way to select the disk cleanup mentioned earlier. Before starting the defragmenter you can analyze your hard drive to see if Windows recommends performing the defragmenter. It will either say that you should or should not defragment at this time.
