My first Spread Bet was an NFL game some 7 or 8 years ago.I really liked the San Diego Chargers - 3 at home against the Washington Redskins. I already placed a $100 bet on my standard online Sports Book (minus $110 to win $100). I decided to place $25 on the Chargers at minus 3 points. I knew the Skins were sluggish on offense and the Chargers were great on defense after 3 weeks into the NFL season. With Spread Betting, to place a bet, you BUY the favorite or SELL the underdog.

The spreadbetting boardwaslisted as San Diego/Washington --- SELL 1 --- BUY 3. This means the favorite at minus 3 or the underdog at plus 1.

The Chargers won handily with great defense. The final score was 24 to 3 with the Skins offense being sluggish again. Now with my regular Sports Books I won $100 but with my Spread Bet of $25 I won $500. Pretty cool ! The spread difference was 21 points ( 24 minus 3 = 21). My account had a cap maximum of 20 points. This cap allows a maximum of 20 times your money stake or betto be added toor subtracted from your account balance. This was an option I accepted to minimize risk. This was much more exciting than a straight up bet for even money minus the vig or juice.

Where was the risk on this bet ? If the Redskins won 24 to 3, I would have lost $500. But I knew that was not likely given each teams strengths and weakness. Washington wasn`t about to travel east coast to west coast and play a superior San Diego team and win by 20 points ---no way. How many times do you see a superior team win by these scores ---- 21 to 3, 24 to 10, 27 to 17 etc....

I felt my risk side was not that risky. Say Washington did manage to win by 3 to 7 points. If Washington wins by 4 points and I am laying 3 points, then I lose 7 times my money bet ($25 x 7 = $175 loss). I felt the upside for the game had more potential than the downside. Old fashion handicapping skills still have the basis for any picks. I was rewarded for my expertise more than I expected.

San Diego by 3 points ------- 3 minus 3 = 0 (push)

San Diego by 7 points --------7 minus 3 = 4 (win 4 X your bet)

San Diego by 13 points ------13 minus 3 = 10 (win 10 X your bet)

San Diego by 17 points ------ 17 minus 3 = 14 (win 14 X your bet)

Washington by 1 point ------- 3 plus 1 = 4 (win 4 X your bet)

Washington by 4 points ------ 3 plus 4 = 7 (win 7 X your bet)

Washington by 10 points -----3 plus 10 = 13 (win 13 X your bet)

OVER/UNDER was 38 points

If you bet Over 38 ---- you lost 11 X your bet. Total points was 27 (24 to 3)

If you bet Under 38 ---- you won 11 X your bet. At $25 bet you win $275

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the many options available using Spread Betting. It can take weeks or months to comprehend this unique format. It is probably the most exciting, rewarding and sophisticated piece of betting software I have played compared to the other standard Sports Books. I would compare it to PROP bets during playoff games or the Superbowl. But much more intricate and creative beyond anything else available. It does require more time, more research, better handicapping skills than regular betting. You will be totally amused by the creative input from this format and the overall software implementation.
