Spring Festival

Spring Festival is the most important festival in China

. It comes at the turn of a Chinese lunar year and is celebrated all over the country. The celebrations usually last a fortnight.

On the first day of the Lunar New Year people get up early and wear all kinds of new clothes. Most families prepare Jiaozi(dumplings) on the Eve as special food. Crackers are fired everywhere when the clock strikes twelve, as a signal of saying good-bye to the old year and welcoming the New Year in. People watch the CCTV special Spring Festival programs, sing and dance to the VCD karaoke player or enjoy themselves in many other ways, usually until the small hours of the morning.

During the Festival season, people also do a great many other things, such as putting on auspicious couplets and colorful New Year pictures, cooking the substantial Chinese family reunion feast. They pay New Year calls to friends and relatives, greeting each other for prosperity and happiness. Children usually get a bumper harvest of pocket money in red envelopes as Lunar New Year gifts.

Spring Festival has been a traditional Chinese festival for thousands of years. In the recent years people have been celebrating it in an increasingly hilarious and happy atmosphere and in an ever-grander style. All this shows that our country is getting stronger and more prosperous. Everyone is smiling. It is indeed the most delightful time in the year for us Chinese. How I enjoy every Spring Festival.

As you know the Spring Festival in China is grand festival, we celebrate it cheerfully. The day before the festival is eve. People have a thorough cleaning everywhere. In the evening the whole family are sitting together, having dinner and watching TV until midnight. The money called yasuiqian is given to children by elders as a gift.

On the first day of the New Year, all the old and young put on new clothes to visit to elders and good friends and deliver the New Years good wishes each other.
