I talked recently with a woman we'll call "Jan" who got totally ripped off (in my opinion) by a web designer / webmaster.

She told me (proudly, I might add) that she had spent $8,500.00 on her website - as if the more you spend the better it is (not true).

I couldn't help myself. I pulled out my laptop and showed her the squeeze pages I make for the company I work for (Overcome Everything Inc.) and for clients...


These squeeze pages are really simple - just a white page with a headline, some simple text telling people why they should sign up for an email newsletter, and a place to put their name and email address.

These simple squeeze pages pull in business leads on autopilot - turning your natural web traffic into cold hard cash with the push of the "send button".

Well, needless to say, Jan wasn't impressed. "Those 'squeeze pages' look so unprofessional!"

And that was funny to me, because I was thinking the same thing about her $8,500.00 business card of a website. The issue here is, webmasters don't usually know what makes a profitable website tick - that's a marketer thing - webmasters are designers, technicians.

If you asked one to build you a car, they might be able to figure it out, but ask them to sell it and they'll freeze up like an old Dell 256.

The biggest shame about Jan's site was, there was NO way it would possibly result in money for her - so there was zero chance she'd get her investment back. Had she spent $50 on a cheap website and hosting, and asked me for advice - I could have helped her...

Even still, I offered to make her a couple squeeze pages to build a marketing list for her business - it's your email list that translates to cold hard cash at the push of a button for years to come...

Of course, she defensively refused my offer to set her up with one of my squeeze pages, which is fine - but I could tell that it was her ego talking... $8,500.00 is a heck of a lot of money to spend on a "digital business card" - I'm sure she's feeling some serious buyers remorse.

If there's one lesson for you here it's this:

Don't worry about how much your website costs or what it looks like - worry about what it does - and make sure it's building you an email marketing list that you can use to drive profit for years to come.
