Squeezing More From Your Bodybuilding Exercises
There are some fantastic bodybuilding exercises that many people are smart enough to use consistently. Some of these muscle builders make use of new machines, cable systems and various other gadgets. Many others are the classic, relatively simple bodybuilding exercises that have been around for generations. However, just because something has lasted the test of time does not mean that it can't be made better.
After all, Chevrolet still makes Corvettes, but they don't shy away from adding more power, better designs and more efficient technology. So spruce up some of the old classics to produce a new wave of bodybuilding exercises that are even better than the originals. With some minor adjustments and a new perspective, you can fix up any tried and true exercise into an even better model, with all of the bells and whistles.
Here's a simple way to make even more out of your dead lifts for example. After completing a standard repetition, then perform a barbell shrug before you lower the weight back to the starting position. With just that simple move you work an entirely different muscle group, making more out of every minute and stimulating the most muscle growth that you can.
A very similar addition can be made to all of your squats. After completing a repetition and standing straight up, stand up onto your toes and hold the position for a second before returning to your normal squat motion. With that addition you work another muscle group, your calves, and can forego an entire exercise, calf raises. You're saving time and effort and once again, making one of the classic bodybuilding exercises better than ever before.
You can't add an additional movement to the classic bench press, but you can make every repetition count for more. Lower the bar for a full three seconds until touching it to your chest. As you lower the bar, squeeze your back together to help load up your muscles to explode back to the top of the position. Be sure not to bounce the bar off your chest, but instead after pausing for a second, deeply exhale and drive the bar up with maximum force.
For another way to combine two bodybuilding exercises into one cohesive movement, you can perform the Arnold press. Named for your favorite governor, the Arnold press essentially combines bicep curls with shoulder presses. Curl two dumbbells to the top position of the movement, rotate your arms so that your palms are facing away from your body and then press both dumbbells overhead. It's two exercises for the price of one, and the added movement will also help you get a great cardio workout while you build muscle.
You don't have to reinvent bodybuilding exercises when you want to make them better. In fact, you should leave them largely intact, only finding ways to squeeze even more out of their already effective movements. With small tweaks such as the ones mentioned above, you will build more muscle in less time, which is a goal that nearly everyone would love to strive towards.
