There are a number of pros of SSD hard drives as opposed to regular plate hard drives, and most of these pros rely on the fact that the new devices do not use moving disks. One of the main pros of using SSD hard drives is the easy convenience to data and faster startup time, as there is no rotating required when doing these tasks.

An additional advantages of using these devices are high mechanical reliability, quiet operation, and low heat generation. Since SSD hard drives don't have moving parts the risk of mechanical malfunction, the noise made, and the heat generated due to friction is eliminated.

The elimination of the need to defragment the hard drive is another plus point of the use of these devices, as the fragmentation of data has no influence on them due to the fact that the seeking motion of a normal hard drives is not required in them.

When discussing about the cons and the challenges these devices face if they are to hold a firm spot in the modern techno-world, one has to pay attention to their cost and power intake. The power intake of these devices is a tricky matter to outline, because when in use they use about 2W where as normal hard drive would consume up to 4W. But the difference is an ordinary drive only uses power when data is being read and processed and have the capability to switch to idle mode when not being used, while the SSD hard drives only has on and off options; so overall they use more power when the computer is turned on.
