Taxi drivers and minicab claim that First Capital Connect (FCC) are charging an excessive amount of for permits to pick up and drop off at St Albans Metropolis Station.

The St Albans Taxi Affiliation (SATA) say the year-on year rises are simply an excessive amount of for their members to afford. Group secretary, MudassarYasin, said: "The price of living and the recession has hit many taxi drivers hard.

However coupled with having to purchase, what we are saying are ridiculously priced permits, many drivers say they might be compelled to look elsewhere for work.

"The price for permits has risen by as a lot as 15 per cent and taxi drivers at the moment are paying as much as ?600 a 12 months for a permit.

There was a rise in costs nearly every year.

"As everyone knows, the price of meals, gas and electricity, also the price of gasoline and insurance

have all risen in the previous couple of years and this recession has also made the general public tighten

their budgets.

"The taxi commerce has been one of many first public services to feel this, as many who would

normally take a taxi, are now utilizing the buses and different strategies of transport, even

strolling, to save the expense of paying for a cab."

Mr Yasin says that SATA has tried to get FCC to see their point of view however so far their

words have fallen on "deaf ears".

He added: "We're offended at having to cope with the increases and hope that FCC will

take our situation into consideration within the future. If not, our drivers could need to take industrial

action.

"We are not the one station on this route which has had a rise and lots of the different

station allow holders up the line are additionally not happy.

"Stations which can be south of St Albans pay a nominal price which is used for the upkeep

of the rank and we feel that we ought to be handled fairly.

"If this example isn't resolved we may haven't any alternative

however to take strike action. We don't want to have to do this, as a result of our prospects would

suffer, but what alternative would we now have?"

Gareth Beazant of FCC denies the worth of a St Albans

station cross is excessive and claimed the latest rise from?140 to ?152.50 was the first increase

since October 2008.

He added: "We continue to put money into patrols, each with the British Transport Police and

NCP to make sure solely allow holders serve the stations and any unlicensed taxis are prosecuted.

We've got also improved number of facilities across the community to enhance entry
