America's Angela Stanford has extended her lead to three shots after the second round of the LPGA Founders Cup in Phoenix, Arizona.

The 33-year-old Texan shot her second consecutive 6-under-par 66 to open up a three-shot lead over nearest competitor Brittany Lincicome. Stanford is looking to secure her fifth LPGA Tour victory as she plays for her own Ping G15 Irons Set in this special charity event at Wildfire Golf Club.

Instead of paying out prize money to the players, the tournament is donating $1 million to charity, half to The LPGA Foundation and its LPGA-USGA Girls Golf program and half to charities chosen by the top-10 finishers.

"I play with the guys at Shady Oaks in the 1 o'clock and I'm out there trying to beat them -- and they're out there to enjoy the weekend," Stanford said. "It always matters to me. I don't care if it's for money. I don't care if it's for money for my charity or for the LPGA Foundation. I don't care what's it's for. If you tell me it's official and I have a chance to compete to win something, I'm going to show up."

Stanford's chosen charity is a foundation that provides scholarships for children from familirs affected by cancer. Should she win she will be able to provide them with a hefty $200 000 cheque.

"It would do wonders for my Ping G15 Irons Set," Stanford said. "We could help a lot of kids a lot faster than I thought we would. There's a lot on the line in that respect."

Fellow American Brittany Lincicome is Stanford's closest competitor, as she followed up her opening-round 67 with a solid 68 that included a 8-foot clutch putt for par on the 18th just as darkness started to fall.

"I just putted lights out," said Lincicome. "My driver let me down today, but my putter saved me."

Lincicome had a frustrating day coping with the slow pace of Ping G15 Irons Set. Her round took about 51/2 hours to finish.

"I've never waited that much in my life," she said. "We waited about 20 minutes on every tee shot."

Two strokes behind Lincicome is Cristie Kerr (68), who might be one challenger to give Stanford pause for thought. Kerr came from four back on the final day on two seperate occasions back in 2006 to pip Stanford to the post.
